Papa's Basement Radio Show

RIP Frasier’s Dad — Papa’s Basement 555

John Papageorgiou February 16, 2018

Background
Martin: I call him “Eddie Spaghetti”.
Daphne: Oh, he likes pasta?
Martin: No, he has worms.

Forgive me taking forever to upload: I’ve been depressed lately which, combined with Netflix adding Goodfellas to its roster, has led to a week of sleeping, overeating and watching the best movie ever made (if you debate this, kill yourself now) three times a day.

This episode was recorded in the wake of the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory, which left me in a fantastic mood. Not only did they vanquish Tom Brady and the Patriots, but the win rested squarely on the shoulders Nick Foles, a man who almost left the NFL due to circumstances beyond his control and wound up the Super Bowl MVP. We tell Foles’s story of triumph, and you can practically hear the theme from Rocky in the background as we do.

We close the episode with another story that will make you feel you can change your crappy, half-lived life: That of John Mahoney, the actor who played Martin Crane on the show Frasier, who passed away a few weeks ago. Mahoney got into acting at 37 in one of gutsier life-moves I’ve heard of. We celebrate him and his stones on the latest Papa’s Basement Podcast. (Oh, and please listen to this interview he did with Fresh Air‘s Terry Gross. Whether you’re happy with where you are in life or you are looking to make a seismic change, it’s 20 minutes that will leave you a whole lot better than you were before you heard it.)
